A guava margarita is a delightful twist on the classic margarita, blending the tropical sweetness of guava with the tangy zing of lime and the smooth kick of tequila. It’s a refreshing, exotic cocktail that transports you to a sunny paradise with every sip.

How to Make a Guava Margarita

A traditional margarita is made with tequila, lime juice, and orange liqueur. My recipe adds a tropical twist with sweet, juicy guava. Here’s what’s in it:

Tequila – Use any good-quality blanco tequila. We like this brand, but feel free to use your favorite!

Guava juice – This adds a sweet, tropical flavor. For the best taste, use fresh guava juice if you can find it, or a good-quality bottled version.

Fresh Lime juice – Freshly squeezed lime juice balances the sweetness of the guava and adds a zesty kick.

Orange liqueur – A splash of orange liqueur like Triple Sec or Cointreau adds depth to the flavor.

Agave nectar or simple syrup – To sweeten the drink to your liking. Add more or less depending on your preference. This is my favorite agave nectar.

Salt – For the rim of your glass! I like this margarita salt, but kosher or coarse sea salt works too.

Ice Cubes – Margaritas are always better on the rocks!

Rub the rim of a margarita glass with a lime wedge, and dip it in a small plate of salt. In a cocktail shaker, combine the tequila, guava juice, lime juice, orange liqueur, and sweetener. Add ice to the shaker, cover, and shake well until the mixture is chilled. Strain the mixture into your prepared glass filled with ice. Sweeten to taste, and garnish with a lime or guava slice. Enjoy!

Guava Margarita Recipe Variations

Guava Nectar Margarita: Swap the guava juice for guava nectar. Since guava nectar is sweeter and thicker, reduce or omit the agave nectar or simple syrup to balance the sweetness. This will give your margarita a richer, more intense guava flavor.

Spicy Guava Margarita: Add a spicy kick by muddling a few slices of fresh jalapeño in the shaker before adding the other ingredients. The combination of sweet guava and spicy jalapeño creates a refreshing and exciting twist.

Coconut Guava Margarita: Add a splash of coconut cream to the mix for a tropical twist. This creamy variation blends beautifully with the sweet guava and tangy lime, making it a perfect summer cocktail.

Strawberry Guava Margarita: Add a handful of fresh strawberries to the shaker and muddle them before adding the other ingredients. The strawberries add a delightful sweetness and a lovely pink hue to your margarita, enhancing the tropical flavors.

Frozen Guava Margarita: Blend the ingredients with a cup of ice for a refreshing frozen version. The texture will be slushy and cool, perfect for hot days. You can also add a bit more guava juice or nectar for an extra fruity flavor. Garnish with a slice of guava or lime and enjoy this frosty treat!
