How to Make a Raspberry Margarita

A classic cocktail gets a fruity makeover with this raspberry twist. Here’s what you’ll need:

Tequila – Opt for a good-quality blanco tequila. This will be the base of your drink, so choose one you enjoy sipping on its own. I love Lalo Blanco Tequila.

Fresh raspberries – The star of the show! Fresh berries give the margarita its vibrant color and sweet-tart flavor. If raspberries are out of season, frozen fruit work well too.

Fresh Lime juice – Freshly squeezed lime juice adds a tangy kick that perfectly balances the sweetness of the raspberries.

Orange liqueur – This adds a hint of citrusy sweetness. Triple Sec or Cointreau are both great options.

Simple syrup – To sweeten the mix and enhance the raspberry flavor. Adjust the amount to your taste, depending on how sweet you like your margaritas.

Salt – For rimming the glass! Coarse sea salt or kosher salt works best. It adds a delightful contrast to the sweet and tart flavors of the drink. I like this margarita salt.

Ice – Essential for serving this margarita chilled and refreshing.

Instructions: Start by rimming your glass with salt. To do this, rub the rim with a lime wedge, then dip it in a plate of salt. In a shaker, combine tequila, fresh raspberries, lime juice, orange liqueur, and simple syrup. Shake well to mix and crush the raspberries. Strain the mixture into your prepared margarita glass filled with ice. Feel free to garnish with a lime wedge or a few fresh raspberries. Enjoy the burst of summer in every sip!

Black Raspberry Margarita Variations

Frozen Raspberry Margarita: Blend the ingredients with ice for a slushy, frozen version of this classic. This icy treat is perfect for hot summer days and offers a refreshing twist with the same vibrant raspberry flavor.

Raspberry Margarita on the Rocks: For a more traditional approach, serve the raspberry margarita over ice without blending. This version lets you enjoy the full, unblended flavors of the raspberries and tequila in a chilled glass.

Blue Raspberry Margarita: For a fun and colorful twist, swap some of the raspberries for blue raspberry syrup or liqueur. This variation adds a striking blue hue and a unique sweet flavor that pairs intriguingly with the lime and tequila.

Black Raspberry Margarita: Use black raspberries instead of the usual red ones, or add a splash of black raspberry liqueur to the mix. This variation offers a richer, deeper berry flavor with a slightly darker color, giving your margarita an elegant twist.

Make a Big Batch: To make a raspberry margarita in a big batch, multiply each ingredient by the number of servings you need and mix everything in a large pitcher. Use fresh fruit and lime juice for the best flavor, and taste the mixture before serving to adjust sweetness if needed.

Chill the batch in the refrigerator or freeze it if making a frozen version, and stir occasionally.

When serving, garnish glasses with salt or sugar and keep the mixture cold by placing the pitcher in a bowl of ice.
